A Different World is Possible,
A Different World is Necessary,
A Different World Right Now!

This symbolic slogan served as the theme of the 10th General Congress of the Red del Camino for Integral Mission in the Dominican Republic.

The sentiment behind this expressive, captivating, defiant, and motivating slogan is nothing more and nothing less than the teachings, declarations, and prophecies of the greatest Teacher of all time. Our Jesus Christ, whose presence and power are facilitated and guaranteed by the idea that a different world is possible and necessary.

This theme is like a magnificent light bulb shining brilliantly in the midst of the deepest darkness that affects the present world with confusion, contamination, and pain.

It is a shout of hope and faith, a declaration of rebellion, protest, and courage. It is a message of bravery and great value. A different world is possible, yes, a different world is within our power. A different world of love and not hate, of peace and harmony, where the rich do not have more and the poor less, where the foreigner is ensured of rest and the old are made strong.

A just world, right now! A world of joy and not sadness, of honesty and not deceit.

Yes, a different world is possible. A world where the Church is called to rise up and represent the love of God. A world that is known by the Lord.

No, I am not playing with words, nor am I interweaving poetic phrases. I am simply stating truth – truth like indestructible columns, like immovable pillars. Truth that comes from the holy Word, the Word that is the foundation of the Kingdom of God and his truth.

This present world is corrupt and shamefully corroded, threatening to destroy everything around it. Each day, evil and violence grows and deceit is the most lucrative commodity patented. This is a world of suffering, lament, and pain. We have lost our sensitivity and our ideals, we have lost our motivation, our values, our self-respect, our honor, and our civility. Ours is a dying world with little hope, almost none.

So what do we do with that? Do we just let it die?

To leave the world to die is to deliver it to the Destroyer. It is to recognize its failure. It is to give up, to abandon our role in it and our work. It is to fall on our face. To let the world sink into despair is to say that Christ has lost and Satan has won.

Do you feel challenged?

Yes, brothers and sisters, if we let it sink, if we lose everything, we are failures.

But no! We have not given up! Instead, we lift up our banner of faith and we proclaim: “A Different World, Now!” And the church is the messenger, it is the model and the proponent of name of Christ.

Yes it is possible. You and I can do it – in the name of our Lord we can be the difference.

You and I can live out the justice, love, peace, and truth that we need to see in the world. You and I are signs and signals of life. You and I can be whole, real, and faithful. You and I, in the name of Christ, can glorify God as examples of how A Different World is Possible, Right Now!

A different world is necessary and possible, and it begins with you, now! Not in the future…

It is needed NOW!

"Concretely and historically, in the life and action of our Lord Jesus Christ we see both the perspective of the Church's mission and this mission in its totality. Our Lord's life provides the determined and defining vantage point of this mission. Christ anticipated this perspective of the Church's mission in his high priestly intercessory prayer, 'As you have sent me to the world, so I have sent them into the world'".

John Stott
