>> Del Camino Network Peru, January 2008

This past January, a group of pastors, men and women, and other church leaders met in Lima to continue the journey of getting to know one another and share experiences of vision and mission from our local churches. As a part of this gathering we collectively decided to continue our journey of growth and the processes of formation as the Red del Camino Perú.

It was encouraging to meet together with others that not only shared the similar expressions of the faith but also, a witness to the mission of the church serving to manifest God´s Kingdom in Peru. Brothers and sisters in Christ coming from Mennonite, independent, youth movements, Baptists and Pentecostals participated in these meetings together with representatives from the Continental Red del Camino network and our brother Juan Jose Barreda-Toscano, pastor of the Constitution Baptist church of Buenos Aires, member of the RdC Argentina. Together we learned about the movement and its diverse expressions throughout Latin America to help us learn from other experiences and continue our processes of formation and development as a network.

With joy and enthusiasm we hope to continue walking down this road towards the formalization of the network here in Peru. We want to be patient, committed to the process, and are convinced that the reality of our particular context a network of local churches united in mission to transform will become a sign of the Kingdom of God and an invitation to others join us on this journey. We look forward to share more with you about our journey and process. We send our warm greetings to all our fellow travelers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

"The Church's role is not to develop a political mission and program. Yet the testimony of service to the needy undoubtedly has social and political dimensions. The concept of our responsibility as service will help us avoid falling into the 'Catholic temptation' of dominating the powers and imposing the Gospel from above”.
